JOINT FAMILY THE ANSWER TO OUR WOES OF ALL TIMES

Indian culture and the family systems followed in the earlier days was the perfect system which could have been followed by all and sundry. My father was the beneficiary of a system in similar lines where all brothers and if possible sisters as well remain in ‘Tharavad’ as we used to call in earlier days. My grand father died when my father was only one year old, but though he was the only son he did not feel the loneliness due to the fact that he had house full of cousins and cousin sisters all grew up together with the eldest male or at times female head controls the whole flock together, without allowing them to whither away.

The earnings from the fields, farm lands and other occupations are compiled together for the common cause. Even when a couple is going through a bad patch, there are others doing well during such times and the overall effect is the well being of all the family members. The worst crimes happening these days are due to the nuclear family culture which has cropped up due to the selfishness of some members ,who may be doing well and do not wish to share their wealth, they prefer to go out and live a life of their own and starts to suffer when the going gets tough.

The ultimate losers are the children who grow up lonely and seldom can thrive in a society with out hitches or trouble, as the lonely upbringing and pampering by parents normally make the kids or kid spoilt by the time they grow up, in majority of cases, may behave irresponsible and adamant. Of course there may be exemptions but very few.

After seeing the recent inflation, power cuts and the bad times ahead, my suggestion is for all those withered families to get together as in the old times and start living happily under one dominant and righteous family head who normally due to his age and experience is better equipped to guide the younger lots in the right direction. More over during bad time some does comparatively well while others may be suffering. Together the chances of survival is easier and most of present day tragedies may be avoided .We can see most cases of crimes by gangsters and robbers are committed to those vulnerable and old or young lonely persons.
